title: "Google Analytics 4"
---

It's official: **on July 1, 2023 Google Analytics (UA) stopped processing data**. So, if your business uses this platform to improve its performance, you need to make the related changes and migrate to Google Analytics 4. And if you're just starting out with your account, we've also included useful information to connect it to your Bolder store.

## Google Analytics 4 (GA4)

This new tool, GA4, collects the data generated by visitors on your website. With this **event-based data**, you'll be able to understand your customers' online journeys to get more conversions and sales.

## Steps to migrate from Universal Analytics

If you currently have a Universal Analytics account and your measurement ID starts with UA-..., it's time to make some changes.

From your Universal Analytics console > go to Admin > you'll have two options for this migration: *Create a new property or* use the *Setup Assistant* tool.

When you **create a new property**, you'll need to follow the general setup steps (described in the next section on activation and setup).

When you use the **property setup assistant tool** or "*Upgrade to GA4"*, it takes the existing UA data as a base to set up the new platform and creates the new property from there.

## Activate and set up your GA4 account

Activation is quite simple and has 5 steps.

**This applies both to setting up your account from scratch and to setting up the new property you created from UA.**

- If you're creating your account from scratch, just sign in with your Google credentials to reach this setup.
- If you're migrating, once the new property is created (as described in the previous section) you'll start this process

1. **Create the account**. Here you give the account a name so you can identify it (e.g. company name).

2. **Create the property.** Property name (e.g. Bolder Store), set the correct time zone, and the reporting currency (these settings affect how the measured data is displayed)

3. **Business details**. The industry you operate in and the size of your company.

4. **Business objectives**. By customizing your objectives you'll get access to personalized reports.

5. **Data collection**. To connect with your Bolder store, select the WEB option

Once all this setup is done, you'll have access to the Google Analytics 4 platform panel. Remember to download and/or back up your UA data in case you need it for your company's future internal analysis.

## Connect GA4 to your Bolder store

To link these new measurement settings to your store, you need to find your property's identifier and also create an API secret.

From the platform, go to Admin > in the Data collection and modification section > Data streams > you'll have access to both by opening the corresponding property.

![](/media/344-8.webp)

The Tracking ID or measurement ID of the property now starts with G-.

In the Events section, you'll find the "Measurement Protocol API secrets" option. Here you'll get the connection key for your Bolder store. To create it, go into that section > review the terms and accept them > once accepted, the "create" option will be enabled. After you click this button, your secret key will be visible.

Now that you have both settings (tracking ID and API secret), go to your panel in Bolder.

In [components](https://start.onbolder.com/addons) > [Google Analytics](https://start.onbolder.com/addons/google_analytics) > update or enter this information.

Once you've made the change, data collection will start within 48 hours (as indicated by GA4).

It's important that you check this connection, because if errors appear after this period, you should contact our [support team](mailto:help@onbolder.com) so they can help you diagnose the problem

As an alternative to these steps, if you already have Universal Analytics set up and work with **Google Tag Manager**, using gtag.js tags on your site, you can connect GA4 with gtag.js to start collecting data without any additional changes, if you already know how to manage the information from that platform.

With these steps you're ready to create events on the platform!
