title: "Promotions in Bolder"
---

## Introduction:

Promotions are a powerful tool to improve conversion and attract more customers to your online store. In this guide, we explain how to create and manage promotions in \[Your Platform Name\]. You will learn about the different types of promotions, how to set them up and the criteria you can set to make them effective.

## Basic information

- **Promotion name:** Choose a descriptive name for your promotion, for example, "Christmas 2023" or "Mother's Day." Your customer will see it reflected in your store.
- **Promotion status:** Turn the promotion on or off as needed.

![](/media/360-1.webp)

- **Activation mode:** Select one of the available activation modes.
- **Stackable:** \*Decide whether the promotion can be combined with other promotions of different activation modes for the same order.

![](/media/360-2.webp)

- **Discount to apply:**
    - Percentage discount\*
    - Fixed amount discount
    - Free shipping

> **Info**
>
> \*When you choose a percentage discount, you can set the maximum applicable either globally (order) or per item, if there is an [association to a group](#product-groups) of products within your parameters

- **Apply tag to orders:** Add a tag to identify the orders that use this promotion

## Promotion activation modes:

- [With code or link:](#with-code-or-link)
- [Automatic promotion:](#automatic)
- [Activation by shipping option:](#activation-by-shipping-option)
- [Activation by payment method:](#activation-by-payment-method)

### With code or link:

In this mode, buyers must enter a discount code during the purchase process to activate the promotion.

Example: Imagine you want to offer a 15% discount on all products in the "Summer Clothing" category during the summer season. You set up the promotion with a discount code called "VERANO15".

Buyers must enter this code at checkout to get the discount. This type of promotion generates a link you can share on social media or by email, so when your customers click it the promotion is activated automatically, without entering the code at checkout

### Automatic:

This promotion is activated automatically when certain conditions are met in the shopping cart.

Example: You decide to offer free shipping for orders with a total value of more than $100.000. When a customer adds products worth a total of $100.000 to the cart, the promotion is applied automatically, without a code or choosing a payment and shipping method at checkout.

> **Success**
>
> Automatic promotions let you stack different promotions under this same mode **as long as they are all linked to different product groups.** [**see more**](/en/customer-engagement/promociones-automaticas-acumulables)

### Activation by shipping option:

The promotion is activated when the buyer chooses a specific shipping option.

Example: You want to offer a 10% discount on shipping for orders with express delivery. You set up the promotion to activate when customers choose "Express Delivery" as the shipping option during checkout.

### Activation by payment method:

The promotion is activated when the buyer selects a particular payment method.

Example: You offer a 5% discount to customers who choose to pay by credit card. The promotion is applied automatically when customers select "Credit Card" as the payment method.

## Promotion parameters:

1. ### Usage limits and price and unit ranges

- Global usage limit (how many times the promotion can be used, for example "Promotion valid for the first 50 purchases")
- Usage limit per user (how many times the same user can use the promotion, identified by the email entered, for example "Promotion valid on your first purchase")
- Valid price range (upper and lower limit of the order value. The promotion is activated within that range. For example "Free shipping on purchases over $50.000")
- Minimum and maximum products (upper and lower limit of products in the order. The promotion is activated within that range. For example "Promotion valid on purchases of more than 2 units"
- Narrow the count (differentiate the group the promotion acts on, for example "Free shipping on purchases over $50.000 in dairy")

    Additionally

2. ### Validity and availability

- Validity dates: You can define the time range in which the promotion will be active, for example from September 1 to October 5.

![](/media/360-6.webp)

- Block for certain dates: In Bolder you can set up calendars for special dates, for example Mandatory Holidays. You can link a calendar you created to your promotion so it skips operating on the days in that calendar.

![](/media/360-7.webp)

- Availability by days and hours: The promotion will be available only on these days and hours even if it is within the Validity dates, for example only Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 am to 4 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays, all day.

![](/media/360-8.webp)

3. ### General association

- Available for a warehouse or branch: If you have stock per branch, promotions can work independently. You can have a promotion that applies only to the Santiago branch, and not to the rest of your branches.

![](/media/360-9.webp)

- To specific customers: Promotions with this option will only be available to customers who have that tag, even if they meet the rest of the parameters.

![](/media/360-10.webp)

- To customers on price lists: You can allow the use of the promotion only for customers who belong to a price list:
    - Available to everyone (with and without a list)
    - Available to customers without a price list (B2C)
    - Available to customers with a price list (B2B)
    - Available to customers on a specific list (B2B)

![](/media/360-11.webp)

- Apply only to plan members

![](/media/360-12.webp)

## Product groups

A product group represents a set of products defined by:

![](/media/360-13.webp)

- Type
- Brand
- Tag
- Collection

## Role of product groups

1. ### Link the discount: who receives it?

When a promotion is linked to one of these sets, the configured discount, percentage or fixed, takes effect only on these products when they are in the shopping cart and not on the rest, that is, it applies at the item level and not the order level. If the discount to apply is "Free shipping", it of course applies to the whole order.

2. ### Meet filters (count limits)

If you have filters for minimum and maximum units or price ranges, when you use this option those filters are calculated taking into account only the products in the cart that belong to this group, and not all of them, which is the default behavior.

### Example

*"Buy 1* ***Bicycle****, get a* ***Helmet*** *at 50% off"*

In this case, both product groups are used.

- The first defines which group the promotion is linked to: it can be products of the **type** "Helmet", products from a **collection** that contains these helmets, since you may not want to apply the discount to all of them, or through a specific **tag**, for example: "casco-50". It can also be **brands**, but the brand likely sells more than just "helmets".

For this example, we decided to apply it to a Tag, *"casco-50"*.

After selecting the association group, you must set whether the units added from the same association group will be counted to activate the promotion (used for 2x1) or, as in our case, it depends on the count of a second group: Bicycles.

![](/media/360-14.webp)

- Select the second group for the count. It can be: products of the **type** "Bicycle", a **collection** that contains these bicycles, or products with a specific **tag**, for example: "Bicycle-helmet", or a **brand**, but as we said before these brands may represent products other than helmets. In this case Type: "*Bicycle"*

![](/media/360-15.webp)

The result: Every time a *Bicycle* type product is added, I will get a helmet at 50% off among products with the tag *casco-50*
