title: "New Variants experience: an evolution in how you configure products"
---

We have updated the **Product variants** section with an improvement that transforms the way you configure and manage your catalog.

In addition to **centralizing** key settings in a single flow, we added **new capabilities** that reduce manual tasks, give teams more autonomy and let you manage the complete behavior of each product from one place.

## Changes made

Variant management evolves to offer a more flexible experience adapted to different ways of working. With this update, variants become the central point for managing the product, letting you not only define its characteristics but also manage key aspects of how it behaves in your operation.

This brings into a single flow decisions that were previously spread across different sections or required additional settings.

**The result is a clearer, more efficient experience that centralizes information, automates operational tasks and gives you more autonomy in catalog management.**

## Why we made this change

We identified three main problems in the previous experience:

- Critical settings were scattered or hard to see
- Common adjustments depended on external steps or support
- The product setup did not fully reflect its real behavior

**This change aims to solve these points through:**

- Centralizing the setup in a single flow
- More autonomy for teams
- Fewer operational errors
- A flow more consistent with business logic

## New settings and operational capabilities

## Product nature

We added new settings that let you directly define the nature and behavior of each product.

These settings can be set when you create the product and changed later when needed, adapting to changes in your catalog and operation.

### Physical product

You can now directly define whether a product is physical or not:

- *(on)* Physical, with shipping requirements
- *(off)* Intangible, such as plans, services or subscriptions

This definition directly affects logistics, shipping and the shopping experience.

This product characteristic may change as needed.

### Stock control

You can now define whether a product tracks stock or not, which allows you to handle different scenarios.

## New capabilities added

We integrated settings that previously required additional adjustments or outside help, so you can manage the product within the same flow.

This reduces time and dependence on support.

### Automatic variant generator

We added a new automatic variant generator that lets you create, in bulk, all the possible combinations from the [variant options](/en/product-catalog/variantes-de-productos) defined for a product.

### Image variant option

We added a new type of variant option based on images. This reinforces the information shown to the customer and makes it easier to choose between different alternatives, offering a more visual and intuitive shopping experience.

**Variant settings**

### Allow different prices per variant

Lets you assign specific prices to each variant of a product, adapting your commercial strategy. Unlike the previous setting, which was general for the whole store, this adjustment is now made at the product level, giving you more control and precision when setting prices.

### Weight setting

Each product and variant can define whether it has an associated weight, which allows it to integrate correctly with shipping rules and logistics carriers.

### Allow barcodes

An option to enable a barcode field on products will be added, making it easier to identify them by scanning and improving inventory management in a faster and more accurate way. *Coming soon.*

### Enable cost/margin

You can now record the cost associated with each product variant.

This information lets you automatically calculate the margin between cost and sale price, giving you a more precise view of each variant's profitability.

Because it is set at the variant level, you can analyze products with different costs, making commercial decisions and catalog management easier.

**All variant changes and settings stay visible in this section. Here you can update existing information or add new data whenever you need.**

## Next steps

> **Warning**
>
> **We will keep evolving this section to add new native settings, improve the experience in processes such as bulk uploads and optimize catalog management**. Our goal is to keep simplifying the way you work with your products, making information clearer, more accessible and easier to manage day to day.

This change centralizes the setup in a single place, giving you more control, consistency and flexibility in product management. While it may involve a short adjustment period, the benefit in operational efficiency is significant. For that reason, we recommend reviewing your current setup to make the most of the new capabilities available.

You can review how products work in full, and the changes made, in our documentation:
