Collections: Bulk creation and assignment of products

Bulk importing products with CSV files is an efficient way to assign and customize collections. However, it is important to consider some recommendations and key steps to ensure a smooth and consistent process.

Steps to create and assign collections

  1. Create the new collection

From products > Collections > New Collection, or open the collection you want to assign the products to.

  1. Prepare the CSV file:

Prepare a CSV file with the required information:

  • id: This unique number is assigned by Bolder to identify each product (required)
  • For your own internal order, we suggest including other columns such as title (the product name), although they are not needed for the upload (optional)
  1. Import

Once your CSV spreadsheet is ready, go to the collection and drag the file in.

To add the products to the collection, select the operation add these products to the collection.

In the following video you can see the full detail of the process.

Important consideration about collection assignments

When you import a CSV file from the “Products” view (different from what was explained above), your upload could have errors. Keep in mind that collection assignments are made based on the data provided in the file, so if you don’t include all the collections previously assigned to each product in the file, you could lose important assignments and change the structure of your collections in unwanted ways.

We recommend creating new collections using the interface, either from a product’s edit page or from https://panel.onbolder.com/admin/collections. This gives you more control and clarity in organizing your collections. Once they are created, you can use bulk import for each collection you want to edit.

Customizing collections from the CSV file

Import a CSV file in the edit view:

Select the collection you want to edit from the full list of collections or from a product’s edit page, in the collections section, by clicking “edit”.

Import a CSV file in the edit view:

Drag and drop the CSV file into this view. When you do, the following options will appear:

  • Reorder Products: This option pins the products in the CSV file to the collection and gives them an order based on their position in the spreadsheet. Products that are not in the CSV file keep their previous order.
  • Add Products to the Collection: This option adds the products in the CSV file to the collection. The products will be ordered according to the collection’s order setting.
  • Remove Products from the Collection: Useful for taking specific products out of the collection without deleting them. Products that are not in the CSV file will stay in the collection.
  • Replace Products in the Collection: Combines the two previous options, replacing all the products in the collection with those in the CSV file.

By understanding the advantages and precautions of using bulk collection import with CSV files in Bolder, you will be better equipped to keep an online store that is dynamic, strategic and appealing to your customers
