Instagram and Facebook Shopping
Instagram Shopping and Facebook Shopping are no longer available in several markets, including Chile.
As of August 10, 2023, Meta discontinued both services.
Changes made by Meta
- Store features such as product tagging in posts, reels or stories are no longer available. This option is no longer available for new posts, and for earlier content only the tags will be removed, without losing the posts themselves.
- When creating ads, you can no longer create new custom or lookalike audiences based on people who have visited a store. If you already have active campaigns on Instagram, ads with product tags will remain available.
- In addition, the product tag for creating new ads is not available either, but if you currently have active campaigns, they will keep working without interruption.
- Stores are no longer available on social networks, so product catalogs are no longer displayed. If you previously had this section, you will probably notice the change, since the View Store button, along with its catalogs, is no longer visible.
General recommendations
If your store is no longer available and it played an important role in your metrics, it’s important to make changes in how you manage your social networks to reduce the possible effects. Here are some general recommendations.
- Use your channels strategically, creating relevant and valuable content for your community, using the tools that are still available, such as links in stories and links in your bio.
- Run custom ads with Meta Ads. There are different types of campaigns you can run to bring more traffic to your store, categories or featured products.
- It is not recommended to change your store’s current settings to set it up within the active countries, since the specific location will be determined by the location of the commerce account it is associated with or the location of the business assets. This bad practice puts your account at risk of being blocked.
