The new Bolder checkout: simpler, faster, safer, better at everything.

If Stripe and Shopify had a baby

As we announced, the new checkout we have been building is ready to try out and put to work. Rethought, redesigned, re-reviewed and rewritten from scratch to offer the best shopping experience and the highest possible conversion. Highlights? It offers the simplest, cleanest interface possible (single-page, single-column, no need for “steps”), avoiding any distractions that could get in the way of the purchase. It is built on a new architecture with new technologies, which offer better performance for the user as well as better mobile support. It integrates with the tracking view at the end of the purchase process, for a more complete shopping experience. For orders that have already been placed, it lets you edit the customer or delivery details, and also “reopen” the order when returning to the store. It uses unique URLs per session for greater security, and adds user validation by OTP (one time password), without exposing private data. It includes support for new payment methods: Apple Pay and Google Pay (via Klap Flex). All this, while still supporting the long list of features Bolder offers: purchase requirement validation; selling products alongside subscriptions or memberships at the same time; choosing delivery windows for shipping or pickup; choosing a receipt or an invoice; redeeming points or gift cards; reverse geolocation to enter an address, discounts by shipping or payment method, and so on. All of it native and harmonious, without the patches and hacks that are usually needed (to achieve something like this) on other platforms. ;)
Headless: The real superpower
This is perhaps the most important detail of this release: the new checkout is designed and built to also work in headless mode. This means you can use it to charge for products or services with all the payment methods supported in Bolder (and with all the features we just mentioned) but outside the context of a Bolder store. Something like Stripe, but one that understands shipping and in-store pickup, stock and delivery windows, points redemption and much more. And it supports Webpay, Paypal, Mercado Pago and many other payment methods. That is why we say it is as if Stripe and Shopify had a baby.
With this, you can build sites using whatever technology you want and host them wherever you want, and with a simple script tag or import connect the whole Bolder platform stack and take advantage of all its business intelligence, logistics, pricing, integrations, and so on. As you can see, this opens the door to building truly unique shopping experiences, out of the box. For this we have been preparing the new documentation (and a new version of the API) designed not only for users but especially for LLMs, so that you (or rather, so that Claude, Codex or Opencode) can get the most out of the platform and do truly incredible things via prompt, using skills.
From SEO to AEO and GEO (and more)
And speaking of artificial intelligence, we have also been working on improving the visibility of all Bolder sites for LLMs and AI agents. To start, you can now create your own llms.txt and upload it as a file in your store’s theme (using the code editor or our CLI), but if you don’t, Bolder will generate one automatically to hand to any LLM that asks for it (similar to how we generate a sitemap.xml for your store and notify Google and Bing when it changes).
But besides this, today all Bolder stores natively support UCP (Universal Commerce Protocol), a new protocol that allows LLMs to make purchases completely unattended, adding things to the cart like any other person would, and then hand you (the human in control) the checkout URL so you can make the payment. If you want to know more, visit ucp.dev.
As part of this, we are also improving the connection with marketing tools and metrics tracking, to make sure the whole purchase flow is perfectly measured at every step and every click. By this we mean Facebook, Tag Manager and Analytics, and also backend integrations such as ActiveCampaign or Klaviyo (we updated the latter a few days ago to follow the latest changes in their events API).
Finally, you can now use AI to generate product descriptions, and we hope to soon extend this to other content areas such as pages, collections and blog posts. To activate it, search for “Bolder Product Descriptions” in the admin’s addons and integrations. And if you want to try the new checkout, look for it under Purchase options in your Bolder panel. Soon we will release the documentation for everything related to headless mode. If you have any questions, as always, we are here.
